What is Distance Education?
The Distance Education and Training Council defines Distance Education as ”education designed for learners who live at a distance from the teaching institution or education provider. It is the enrolment and study with an educational institution that provides organized, formal learning opportunities for students. … when each lesson or segment is completed, the student makes available to the school the assigned work for correction, grading, comment, and subject matter guidance by qualified instructors. Corrected assignments are returned to the student. This exchange fosters a personalized student-instructor relationship, which is the hallmark of distance education instruction.” http://www.detc.org/
Deakin UnivErsity’S Proven EXPERIENCE
Deakin University has a long history for providing Distance Education. We are committed to innovation in course design and delivery and for more than 30 years we have offered high-quality masters degrees that meet the needs of professional people who require flexible study options. Distance education is fast becoming the preferred way for our students to combine study with their work or family commitments, with approximately 40 per cent of Deakin students currently electing to study by distance education.
Courses completed by distance education are the same standard as those completed by on-campus students all students in Deakin’s award programs are assessed in the same manner and to the same performance standards regardless of where they are studying.
Moreover, our quality has been endorsed by the Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) — Australia's independent body for safeguarding the quality and standards of higher education
Distance Education at Deakin UnivErsity - The AdvantaGE
Deakin University has developed a range of External Masters programs which enables students to study in a more flexible way and to gain a masters degree from one of Australia's leading universities.
These Distance Education programs provide students who live outside Australia with the opportunity of studying for a Deakin Masters qualification without the need to relocate to Australia allowing students to continue to work and live in their home country while studying.
Distance education enables sstudents to balance study and working life and is especially suited to busy people who wish to increase their knowledge and skills without giving up their jobs, leaving home, or losing income. It enables students to truly learn while they earn without the need for costly relocation, leaving family or their job.
Distance Education programs also provide a competitive edge in the market. A student who has studied by Distance Education has proved they are capable of independent thought and self-discipline, and are prepared to work hard.
We recognise that studying at a postgraduate level is demanding for many professionals, not merely because of the level of study, but also due to the many competing priorities such as financial, career or family commitments. Deakin University External postgraduate courses provide an alternative to traditional approaches that is both cost-effective and self-contained.
Benefits of completing your studies through Deakin University External postgraduate courses include:
* Studying while in your job and maintaining career progression
* Improving knowledge and career prospects
* Improving English language skills
* Studying in your home country and avoiding the expense of relocation costs
* Increased flexibility to adjust study load to suit work demands across three designated study periods per year
